SCARIEST PLACES ON EARTH MOVING TO THE SCI-FI Network!

Before there was Ghost Hunters on the SCIFI network- there was another reality paranormal show in the U.S. that tried to use evidence and proof to capture ghosts on film- this program was initially called “World’s Scariest Places” and ran on the FOX Family channel.
Hosted by horror queen Linda Blair and narrarated by Zelda Rubenstein ( the vertically challenged medium in Poltergeist) this show had a weekly format.
An American family would agree to go anywhere on earth with the purpose of finding out whether or not paranormal activity and hauntings were real. Once they arrived they were given a tour by daylight of their investigation site, some background on the supposed hauntings and activities and then they were given some tools to measure paranormal activity. Anyone who has seen Ghost Hunters is familiar with the tools. Generally the tool kit included a EMF meter that measures electromagnetic frequency changes, a thermometer to gauge temperature variations and cold spots and IR infrared video cameras to see in the dark. Other tools that would be brought out included diving rods and sometimes some recorders to try to capture some EVPs. On the whole the families would spend a lot of time walking around asking questions and scaring themselves more than anything. Sometimes they would catch some activity and sounds that had no explanations.
The show was accused of staging some events but this was mainly later on when ABC took them over and changed the name to”Scariest Places on Earth”. I really felt that when they abandoned the format of having a family try to discover proof of the paranormal and switched over to having teenagers and college students screaming in the dark they lost the power of the show and the heart of it which was a sincere look at the dark side of hauntings and the search for proof of life beyond life. When ABC Family took over the show it was after the movie The Blair Witch had aired and as ABCF is all about getting teens and pre-teens to watch their shows, they moved away from the more compelling family dynamic of the show.
The Sci-Fi channel has been advertising that “Scariest Places on Earth” is coming and it is appearing on their schedule with two episodes airing on Tuesday Feburary 12, 2008. Check your local times for exact showings!
I have to think that SciFi picking this up is directly related to the tremendous success of Ghost Hunters and Ghost Hunters International. Many of the haunted places being visited by the GHI team were first introduced to American audiences with Scariest Places. Two of the best investigations from that show have already been covered in this season of GHI- Chillingham Castle in northern England and the Italian Monastery which was in the second epiosde of GHI.
If you love Ghost Hunters- these showings are a must if for no other reason than to appreciate the fully professional approach of the TAPS team and to get some additional background on the places they are visiting. I love Linda Blair an Zelda Rubenstein as hosts- their way over the top dramatic introductions and summaries remind me of Vincent Price and his horror movie fest hosting in the 1970s.
Get ready to have a good and scary time!

we have a old tunnel that caved in and killed some people and they never did get them out
this isnt a tall tail this really happened this place is said to have ghost ive been their about half a dozon times see the railroad tried to cover the interance way to the tunnel after the cave in now theres just a little hole that leads down to a flat spot then its all water from there ever time i go down their is aways something that freaks me out a strange noise eyes in the distance or something ive even taken pictures down there and got some really weird stuff on them like what they call orbs one of the pic is a orb that gets closer and if you zoom in to it it looks just like a face not just a little bit but alot like a face
my cousin and his friend is the only people who i have ever heared of to go down the water and see the diffrent things down there they never made it all the way but they went over different cavein but that was years ago the noises that come from back their are defently
different sounding so if you got the guts and time i challenge you to check it out if you would like to see the pics please write me back

I will keep an eye open for listings on the show and updates- right now SCIFI is airing the Scariest Places library that was originally shown on the Fox Family Channel and then on ABC Family. When ABC took over the network and the show they shifted the focus to the teenagers and college kids ala Blair Witch and had less of the actual families doing ghost hunting. Those original episodes at the great scary castles etc that ran on Fox Family are the best of the series. Linda Blair gets as many questions about this show as she does about her part in the Exorcist when she does horror fests.

Am a true believer of earth bound spirits and well other aspects of hauntings be they evil or risidual. (ect) There are indeed more than one kind of haunting. well I was just tripping around.

For those of you looking to be on SPOE, it’s a crap shoot not in your favor. SPOE usually only brings in people tht are local to where they are taping, and then only about 7 minutes of footage is shown out of 2 full days of taping. How do I know? I was one of the lucky ones invited by Triage to be a a consultant in one of the episodes.
Your best chance at being on any future episodes is to learn as much as you can about the paranormal in general. Then, when you think you know enough learn more. Find local groups in your area that have the same interest and start doing some field work. Cemeteries, old hospitals, etc. but try to do it legally. Meaning get permission to be there and don’t trespass. Learn what EVP area and how to filter and isolate them from tape. Learn what orbs are and how to tell an orb from a reflection of light. And trust me, you would be lucky to actually get an orb on fim no matter how hard you try or no matter what you think you see. i have over 20 years experience on paranormal investigations and a Dr in theology focusing on Parapsychology rhather than the religious end.

Could you tell me what the name of the Hospital was that the Wilson, or Williams Family Investigated? The epsode aired WED> Aug 27 08, on SCIFI I want to say it was called the Villiyon, or something like that , I missed the first part of the show where they told the name of the place, but they said it at the end of the show, but I couldnt understand what he said, nor can I spell it. I do remember that they had to take a boat to get to the place, & it had a Gas Chamber, Head Sergons Office, Creamatorium, The Oven Dr’s Office as well as a few other places they had to visit. If you could tell me the name of the place & where it is at I would really apreciate it. Thank You Cheryl. PS Dont worrie I have ne desire of going there.

I am sorry to keep repeating this- but I keep getting comments which I am no longer bothering to approve asking me how to get on the show. The show is no longer taping- everything you are seeing are repeats. Go to the SCIFI Channel links for more info and to discuss the show with fans. The SCIFI Channel does check those out- they brought back Scare Tactics- if there is demand they could bring back SPOE. I have nothing to do with the show though and can’t tell you one way or another about what your chances for getting on it are.
I keep watching looking for something to happen and all I ever see or hear is people screaming and dramatic music…what is the point?
