Overmyer Over It

Amanda Overmyer the rocking nurse from Indiana was voted off of American Idol as the lowest vote getter in the Top 11. The theme for the week was Beatles music -again and the entire night was pretty lackluster. I think the contestants really put their all into the previous week’s song choices and performances and when they learned they had to do yet another Beatles song they all went beh….they were not nearly as excited as the judges about this music that was from a decade and a half to two decades before many of the contestants were even born.
Amanda sang Born in the USSR- and I thought she was great as always but I love her hard rock edge. The pop loving kids who watch the show are welcome to David Archuleta and his young Julio Iglesias song stylings. I will rock out with Amanda with a beer in hand and my black boots n jeans any time over that!
Word since these interviews were done is that she has booked a date at the Whiskey in LA- a legendary rock and blues club that has seen the likes of Janis Joplin and The Doors play their stage. YOU GO GIRL! ROCK ON!

Punkish rocker Amanda Overmyer left “American Idol,” but fans haven’t seen the last of her. “I’ll give it a little bit of time. See how much momentum I’ve created and see if I can do a career change and make this what I do now,” she told “Extra.” The Hoosier nurse says she’ll have to draw the line somewhere. “If it ends up being my 15 minutes of fame, I’ll gracefully bow out and go home and do what I was doing. I’m not going to chase that unicorn forever.”Amanda wowed Idol judges with her Janis Joplin-style pipes, but as the competition heated up, she was unable to show versatility — and she didn’t seem to want to. “I really didn’t put forth much effort to change anything or mold into what I needed to do to continue on with the show, which is exactly what I wanted to do.”Still, she has no regrets. “The whole objective was to come out and put my sound on TV and see if people liked it. So I accomplished what I wanted to do.”

NBC squashes ‘Passions’ chances

Soap unable to find a new home

NBC has killed whatever small chance there was of a “Passions” resurrection.

A few months ago, DirecTV, which has aired the sudser since it was canceled by NBC last year, opted against another season of the show. Nonetheless, producer Universal Media Studios had been trying to find yet another home for the soap.

But at a wrap party last week, “Passions” cast and crew members were told that talks to keep the show alive via the Internet or another outlet had failed. Peacock insiders confirmed the report, though the studio declined comment.

Further proof of the end of “Passions” came Monday morning when UMS and Premiere Props announced a two-day blowout sale of props and costumes from the show this weekend.

On the heels of its stellar ratings and Emmy success, USA is bringing back the hit miniseries THE STARTER WIFE as a 10-episode series, with Emmy Award- winner Debra Messing returning to star and now serving as executive producer. The series will focus on the post-divorce adventures of the lead character, Molly Kagan (Messing), as she begins a new chapter in her life. The Emmy nominated writing team of Josann McGibbon & Sara Parriott (”Runaway Bride”) return as executive producers and Gigi Levangie Grazer, who penned the NY Times bestselling novel on which the miniseries was based, also returns as executive producer. The project will be produced by NBC Universal Cable Studios in association with McGibbon/Parriott Productions and 3 Arts Entertainment. Stephanie Davis (”The Caveman’s Valentine”), Howard Klein (”The Office,” “Carnivale”) and Molly Madden (”Picture Perfect”) will also serve as executive producers for 3 Arts.

Jason Bateman to direct Fox comedy pilot

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Former “Arrested Development” star Jason Bateman is returning to Fox, this time as a director of “The Inn,” a comedy pilot described as “Upstairs/Downstairs” set at a hip New York hotel.

 

“Inn” marks the first pilot directing gig for Bateman, who has directed episodes of comedy series, including the Emmy-winning “Development.” According to imdb.com, he became the Directors Guild of America’s youngest-ever director when he shot three episodes of “Valerie” (1986) at age 18.

 

In front of the camera, he was recently seen in “Juno,” playing the would-be adoptive dad.

Chris Noth: ‘Sex’ Sequel Possible

New dad Chris Noth is juggling diaper duty with a hit television show and promo for “Sex and the City: The Movie.” The star of “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” proudly showed “Extra” a photo of his 2-month-old son Orion at USA Network’s upfronts in New York, gushing, “I’m very lucky to have the girlfriend that I do because she’s probably the best mother in the world!” His longtime love, Tara Wilson, gave birth in January.

Perhaps adding to Chris’ busy schedule, word is there might be “big” plans for a “Sex and the City” sequel — and he’s up for it! “I imagine if it made a lot of money, they’d want one. I don’t know where Sarah [Jessica Parker] stands on that… it’s sort of up to her. I’m just riding her coattails!”
