Fox renews King of the Hill

Propane rules! Fox has renewed King of the Hill for a 13th season. The down home hilarity of Hank and Peggy Hill, their son Bobby and dog Lady Bird, will continue for another year, likely remaining in Fox’s strong Sunday night animation lineup that includes The Simpsons, Family Guy and American Dad — although that’s only speculation on my part.

King of the Hill

Creators Mike Judge (the voice of Hank and Boomhauer) and Greg Daniels (The Office) will continue at the helm, and all the usual characters remain. That means more of Kathy Najimy as Peggy, Brittany Murphy as Luanne, Pamela Adlon as Bobby, Johnny Hardwick as Dale, and Stephen Root as Bill.

NBC has greenlit a spinoff of “The Office” that will debut after the Super Bowl, and will put “Saturday Night Live” in primetime next fall. Those are some of the headlines to emerge from the Peacock’s meeting with advertisers in Gotham Wednesday morning. Programming chief Ben Silverman unveiled a 65-week sked–this summer, plus all of next year–that emphasizes family-targeted fare at 8, broad appeal or “blockbuster” event programming at 9 and adult-themed dramas at 10.

Just four new shows are slated for the fourth quarter. Christian Slater starrer “My Own Worst Enemy” is set to air Mondays at 10, laffer “Kath & Kim” will bow Tuesdays at 9:30 (following “The Biggest Loser: Family Edition”, “Knight Rider” will bow Wednesdays at 8, and “Crusoe” is set for Fridays at 8.

“Friday Night Lights” will be back–but not until the winter. “30 Rock” and “Law & Order” have also been renewed, as has “Lipstick Jungle.” Matthew Broderick has been booked for the season finale of “30 Rock.”

NBC will use the post-Super Bowl berth to air a special episode of “The Office,” followed by the previously reported “Office” spinoff.

Peacock will once again air hourlong “Office” episodes in September. In October, “The Office” will be followed by “SNL Thursday Night Live,” a live half-hour of politically-themed sketches geared to the election. Primetime “SNL” will air for four weeks. Continue reading ‘NBC Reveals Fall Lineup’

Fox Atomic is plunging further into the Hayden Panettiere business. The Heroes actress is attached to star in Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List, an adaptation of a book by authors Rachel Cohn and David Levithan, which the studio just purchased. (Fox Atomic also recently cast Panettiere in I Love You, Beth Cooper.) The Genesis Awards which were presented this past weekend in Beverly Hills are a different kind of award. Produced by The Humane Society of the United States, they recognizes those in the major media whose talents and journalistic integrity have raised awareness of animal issues. Nominees and winners range from those who work in the print media, to the writers, directors, and producers of feature films and television. They are recognized and receive their awards from celebrities of all stripes.

Some of our favorite stars were on hand to take part and received awards of note.

Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of The HSUS, presented The Wyler Award, established last year to honor a celebrity who has raised awareness of animal issues through the major media, to “Heroes” actress Hayden Panettiere following footage showing her tangling with Japanese fisherman as she attempted to save trapped dolphins rounded up for slaughter. Panettiere, also a spokesperson for Save the Whales Again! and The Whaleman Foundation, was visibly moved.

“As an actor, you always dream of Emmys and Academy Awards,” she said. “But I never dreamed of an award as special as this one is.”
